MI PREGUNTA (question)

Why are the mothers in the book so religious? And how did they come up with all the courage and faith in God??

  1. I think the mothers in the book are religious because many mexicans are catholic, and catholic mothers bring their religion into everyday life. I would know...

  2. Hahaha it sounds like your mom's really religious! I think this might be incorporated into the culture of Mexico. The women seem like a stronghold in the story.

  3. Definitely. The women are the center of the families around the topics of chores and religion. I think mothers will spread their religious influences on their children, like Lupe.

  4. Not alot of books have strong women so this book really empowers women and their struggle to provide for their family during a time of war and corruption.

  5. That is another connections between this book and In the Time of the Butterflies. The strong woman in literature is rare, and it does make a difference for the story when there is a strong woman in it. That is why this book works for me. Its origional.

  6. Eventhough the book is super long the plot keeps me in tune to the story and the complicated situations. It would be so frustrating to be without a home. When you have a home it means safety.

  7. The length of the book is important for character development. So much happens and characters change, so they needed time and pages to slowly move into the changes in the plot.

  8. That very true. The small events build the character's traits and tendencies like when you see the steady change of Juan becoming a man and realizing the true meaning of his mother's sayings.

  9. Exactly what I'm talking about. I think the author does an unusually well job building up the plot with details like those.

  10. This is one of my favorite books. The setting of the book makes it unlike other novels that take place in the united states. Also, it is amazing to know that this novel was actually a true story and someone lived through this suffering.
